Common Interview Questions

Job interviews can be a scary necessity to acquiring the occupation you desire. With practice, they will not only be much easier emotionally, but you will greatly enhance the chances of you getting the job you want. To aid you in your future success, we will be visiting proper techniques used in a job interview. This experience may also help some of you in the very near future acquire internships. Our first look at job interviews will include questions frequently asked in an interview.


 

INTERVIEWEES - First Year Students

Complete the following items

  1. Go to Common Interview Questions from nextsteps.org
  2. Open a Word document - save as common_q in your CSB Tri1 folder
  3. In that same Word document - Copy and paste the entire page from nextSteps from the Opener - and all the way through the two answers of closure
  4. Read/Highlight/Margin Note
    • Using your highlighter in Word - Highlight key concepts
    • Using insert comment -provide notes in more detail about key concepts and tips
  5. Then, for Each Question below:
    • Copy and Paste each of the questions below and place at the top of your common_q.
    • Link up to your worklinks
  6. Next, answer each of the questions below with detailed responses: Each answer must incorporate stories and/or examples about you and your experiences to illustrate the tips you studied:
    1. "Tell me about yourself."
    2. "Have you ever done this type of work before?"
    3. "Why should we hire you instead of someone else? What are your greatest strengths?"
    4. "What are your weaknesses?"
    5. "Give me an example of a time when you worked under pressure."
    6. "What are your long range goals?"
    7. "Why do you want to work here?"
    8. "What kind of salary do you expect?"
    9. "How much were you absent from work/school?"
    10. "When are you available for work?"
    11. "Are you willing to cut your hair or take out your earring?"
    12. "What salary are you expecting?"
    13. "Are there any questions that you have?"
    • (Hint: Be prepared for a quiz on these questions.)

 

INTERVIEWERS - Second Year Students

  3. Copy and paste the entire page from nextSteps from the word Opener all the way through the two answers of closure
  4. Read/Highlight/Margin Note
    • Using your highlighter in Word - Highlight key concepts
    • Using insert comment -provide notes in more detail about key concepts and tips
    • Think about each question in regard to the company you will interview for and how each question meshes with your company. Comment on this
  5. Next, individually, you will evaluate each of the questions in regard to appropriateness for you and your team in the interview process next week.
  6. Describe which ones you (just you) think your team could use and why.
    • Rank and list them in order from first (best question) to last (least important)
    • Answer - What you are looking for from the interview candidate whey you ask each specific question.
  7. We will get with your teams tomorrow.
