BIS at a Glance

Established

Located in Central Point, Oregon, Crater School of Business, Innovation, and Science (BIS) was founded in 2007 when Crater High School split into four small schools based on the educational philosophies of the Oregon Small Schools Initiative.

The Small Schools system offers students what most large, comprehensive high schools cannot: personalization and a strong community. Students select an academy based on their personal interests and learning style, and each academy offers unique programs and classes to extend their learning and high school experience. For example, BIS' cornerstone rests on real world applications and technology. By going small, students are known by more teachers, which is essential to developing a community of successful students.

Character

Academically rigorous, community involved, professional expectations, college preparedness, project based, creative, persistent, technologically innovative

School Report Card

At BIS, we believe the state assessments reveal only a sliver of the big picture. Don't get us wrong, we understand and value the importance of state testing, and prepare our students to successfully navigate and meet the demands of the required tested subjects; however, like a student, we are more than a test score. You won't see us broadcasting test data as a pillar of who we are – it's only a small part our accomplishments.
