Task 6-- Magazine Layout

  1. Your magazine must include the following components:
    • Cover on first page-- use JPEG version
    • Table of Contents
    • "Letter from the Editor"-- use your Responsible Travel essay-- feel free to make adjustments-- begin with, "Dear Readers," and at the end, put your name
    • Dream trip itinerary (at least five days of it)
    • All three articles-- economics, environment, culture
    • Works Cited page
    • Make sure you have an even number of pages
    • Feel free to add advertisements, quizzes, contests, etc., for extra credit
    • Proofread VERY CLOSELY-- make sure there are no mistakes!


Task 5-- Magazine Cover

  1. On your cover, you must follow these guidelines and include these items:
    • 8.25 by 10.75 in. project
    • Your picture from our photo shoot
    • Background image (large size) from your dream trip location-- find on Google Images
    • Magazine title-- use cool font! and try 1001freefonts.com-- click HERE
    • Titles or details from your three articles
    • Make sure fonts and background are cohesive
    • PROOFREAD CLOSELY! There should be no typos on the cover of your magazine
    • Save in your U drive as a Photoshop doc and a Jpeg
     

Task 4-- Tourism and Culture Article

  1. You might want to begin by looking at magazine articles from the magazines on the table to get ideas.

  2. Your article's topic is TOURISM & CULTURE. You can make up a title that you believe is fitting.

  3. Type your article in Word and save it in your U drive in your CIS folder in your MAGAZINE folder.

  4. The format of your article must be as follows:

    • Exciting hook and intro of topic (1 paragraph)

    • Multiple body paragraphs (2-5)

    • Closing/ reflection (1 paragraph).

      Sometimes paragraphs in articles are shorter than in essays-- look at examples to see models of this!

    • Positive and negative impact of tourism on people

    • You MUST use, define, give examples of, and highlight the following words in this part of your article: globalization, colonization, counterfeit culture, stereotypes, budget travel. Use your Cornell notes for this information!

    • A change you would make to your dream trip based on the impact on peple-- how could you make your dream trip more beneficial to the country you are visiting? What intelligent cultural choices can tourists make? What risks involving tourism affect your country, and how can YOU help be an agent of change? Be specific! Choose one of your hotels, excursions, activities, restaurants, etc., explain why it is not a smart choice reguarding the people living in your tourist location (i.e. jobs and labor impact, language, macabre tourism, cultural clashes, etc.) and explain how you would change the trip based on this information!

    • Keep an MLA-style list of sources you use to write your article-- this will be included in your magazine.

Task 3-- Tourism and Environment Article

  1. You might want to begin by looking at magazine articles from sample magazines to get ideas.

  2. Your article's topic is TOURISM & THE ENVIRONMENT. You can make up a title that you believe is fitting.

  3. Type your article in Word and save it in your U drive in your CIS folder in your MAGAZINE folder.

  4. The format of your article must be as follows: Exciting hook and intro of topic (1 paragraph), Multiple body paragraphs (2-5), Closing/ reflection (1 paragraph). Sometimes paragraphs in articles are shorter than in essays-- look at examples to see models of this!

  5. Each of the following topics MUST be covered in your article: - Environmental pros and cons of tourism-- you MUST use, define, give examples of, and highlight the following words in this part of your article:
    • Tragedy of the Commons, free market, ecotourism, PPP, debt-for-nature swaps. Use your notes for this information!
    • A change you would make to your dream trip based on the environment-- how could you make your dream trip more environmentally beneficial to the country you are visiting? What intelligent environmental choices can tourists make? What environmental problems face your tourism location, and how can YOU help be an agent of change? Be specific! Choose one of your hotels, excursions, activities, restaurants, etc., explain why it is not a smart environmental choice (i.e. use of fuel, amount of waste, etc.) and explain how you would change the trip based on this information!
  6. Keep an MLA-style list of sources you use to write your article-- this will be included in your magazine.

 

Task 2-- Tourism and Economy Article

  1. You might want to begin by looking at magazine articles from previous years to get ideas.Your article's topic is ECONOMICS & TOURISM. You can make up a title that you believe is fitting. The format of your article must be as follows: Exciting hook and intro of topic (1 paragraph), Multiple body paragraphs (2-5), Closing/ reflection (1 paragraph). Sometimes paragraphs in articles are shorter than in essays-- look at examples to see models of this!
  2. Each of the following topics MUST be covered in your article:

 

Task 1-- Creating a new folder

  1. In your T1 CIS folder in your U drive, create a new folder called "Travel Magazine"
  2. Save all articles, pictures, etc., for your magazine in this folder.
