Do NOT look at the screen when presenting.

  5. Spanish II/ Register for H and R Budget Challenge- an online personal finance simulation in a competition format. During the simulation (until April 20), students receive paychecks and bills in real time and are challenged to build a budget that allows them to pay their bills on time, manage their credit card balance, and save money for retirement in a 401(k). The simulation does not use real money, but is extremely realistic including features such as online banking, electronic bill-pay, direct deposit, e-mail bill alerts, 401(k) paycheck deductions, late fees, utilization penalties and more.

    Enter class code and validate.

    Next enter your real first and last name.

    Then enter a username 7-13 letters and numbers only no spaces/characters - and a password 7-13 no spaces, case sensitive - use your school email address- make sure it is something you can remember!

    The address field for Crater BIS auto-populates.

    Next, check email for registration confirmation email - in that email> click on activate and login link > this will takes you to site > select the click here to go to next step hyperlink (to be finished, every tab needs to be green).

      As a group - we will do a quick review of the vendor selection info packet as each of you will have to make final vendor selections and create a budget - Once the simulation starts, students will not be able to make changes to their vendor options or 401(k) plan.

  1. Make Up Assignment: Virtual College Tour
  • Make Google slide show featuring a college or university that you are interested in attending. Include the following slides:
  • Intro with name and picture of school
  • Location of school with link to its website-- picture of map with location of school indicated on it-- add 3-5 bullet points of information telling about the town in which it is located (fun things to do, size, etc.)
  • History-- who founded this school and why?-- when was it founded?-- how has it changed over the years?-- include an early picture of the school and/ or an early graduating class
  • Most notable majors that the school offers with pictures representing each-- make sure to feature the major in which you are most interested
  • Extracurricular activities and programs-- list at least three and explain each-- include a picture that represents each
  • Campus life-- feature information on housing and costs associated with it-- share multiple bullet points on meal plans, most common living situations for students, and pictures representing each
  • Awards-- what has this school be recognized for?-- share a list of awards this school has earned-- explain each briefly and include a picture representing these awards
  • Famous/ Noteworthy graduate(s)-- list one or more people who have graduated from this institution-- include a picture of each-- briefly tell what his/ her claim to fame is
  • Share with Mason Vranes, Noon and Sullivan and be ready to present your school in 3-4 minutes tomorrow in class!
  • If you finish early, work on your game OR check Synergy and complete missing assignments.

February 24

  1. Make Up Assignment: Mason should pull up Google slide shows-- turn on projector so all students can see.
  2. Present schools-- take notes on each presentation. Put the presenter and school name, and then write down the most important facts you learned. Put your name on the notes and rank your top three presentations at the end. Turn notes in to the sub.
  3. If you finish early, work on your board game OR check Synergy and work on missing assignments!
